About Driving Knowledge Test: who writes and checks the questions

Driving Knowledge Test's questions are drafted with AI from each official handbook, in our own words, then checked automatically and by an independent second AI system that answers every question without seeing our answer.

Driving Knowledge Test offers free practice tests for driving knowledge, permit and theory tests. It is independent. Not affiliated with any DMV, DriveTest, Transport for NSW, DVSA or other licensing body. The short version is on the facts page.

Who writes the questions

The questions are drafted with AI from the official handbook for each test (listed below), in our own words. We never copy official practice tests or their questions. Every question has four options, one correct answer and a short explanation that points to the handbook section or official page it comes from.

Each test page starts with the official facts (number of questions, pass mark, fee) from the authority's own pages. Where an authority does not publish its format, the page says so and labels the format our practice tests use as "commonly reported".

How we check them

  1. Automatic checks on every set of questions: exactly one correct option, no near-duplicate questions, an even spread of correct answer letters, a plain reading level, sign questions that match our sign drawings, and numbers (speeds, distances, ages, fees) flagged for checking against the official fact sheet.
  2. An independent second answer: a second AI system answers every question without seeing our answers. Where it disagrees with ours, or cannot pick one clear answer, we rewrite or drop the question.
  3. Official facts: each test's facts (questions, pass mark, fee, handbook edition) were checked against the authority's official pages. We note the source and the date; the date is shown below and on each test page.
  4. Human review: every reported mistake is checked by a person and the question is corrected or removed. We do not yet have a credentialed driving instructor reading each country's questions; when we do, their name will appear here.

What happens when you report a mistake

Every question has a "Report a mistake in this question" link that tells us which test and question you mean. You can also email support@drivingtestgym.com.

What we are not

We are not a licensing authority and cannot book, change or mark a real test. Passing our practice tests does not guarantee a pass; rules change, so always check the official handbook and your authority's website. Tests 1–2 for every test are free; tests 3–10 unlock with a one-off code. See the terms, privacy policy and contact page.
