Driving Knowledge Test facts: what it is, where it works and what it costs
Driving Knowledge Test is a free practice-test website for the written driving knowledge test (the permit, learner or theory test) in the United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom.
For each of the 67 tests it covers, practice tests 1 and 2 are free with no sign-up, and tests 3 to 10 are a one-off paid extra.
- What it is
- A website of full-length practice tests, road-sign quizzes and official test facts for learner drivers. It is in English.
- Who it is for
- People preparing for a driving knowledge test, and the parents, driving instructors and teachers who help them.
- Where it works
- United States (49 tests), Canada (9 tests), Australia (8 tests), United Kingdom (1 test).
- What is free
- Practice tests 1 and 2 for every test, each with every answer explained; road-sign quizzes; the official facts for each test (number of questions, pass mark and fee, where the authority publishes them) and a FAQ page.
- What is paid
- The practice test pack: tests 3 to 10 for one test, or for every test in a country with a country pass. One payment, no subscription. United States: $4.99 USD for one test, $9.99 USD for a country pass; Canada: $6.99 CAD for one test, $12.99 CAD for a country pass; Australia: $7.99 AUD for one test, $14.99 AUD for a country pass; United Kingdom: £4.99 for one test.
- How the questions are written
- In our own words from the official handbooks, drafted with AI. Each US state's tests combine rules that apply in every state with questions on that state's own rules. Every question has four options, one correct answer and an explanation that names its source: a handbook section or an official page.
- How the questions are checked
- Automatic checks on every set, and an independent second AI system that answers every question without seeing our answer; questions it disagrees with are rewritten or dropped. Details are on the About page.
- How the test facts are checked
- Against each licensing authority's own pages, with the source and the date recorded. Where an authority does not publish a figure, the page says so. Latest check: October 22, 2026.
- Accounts and data
- No account. Scores, settings and unlock codes are saved in your own browser. See the privacy policy.
- Refunds
- A full refund within 14 days of buying; see the refund policy.
- Independence
- Not affiliated with any DMV, DriveTest, Transport for NSW, DVSA or other licensing body.
- Based in
- The United Kingdom.
- Contact
- support@drivingtestgym.com, or the contact page.
- What it is not
- Not a government site, not a way to book a real test, and not the official question bank: our questions are our own, written from the official handbooks.
